5 (a)- valency-- the capacity of molecules that a hydrogen atom can displace or combine with in order to gain a stable electronic configuration.
variable valency -- is a valency Mary's open particular element when the element is said to have a variable valency .
(b) if an element have variable valency than the less one ends with -ous while the more one ends with -ric
EXAMPLE--
copper has 2 valency is the first valency is + 1 then it is written as cuprous and II valency is + 2 then it is written as cupric
