1) y = x - 4

Given :- Please help solve these linear equations using the substitution method :-

1) y = x - 4

x + y = 10

2) x - y + 3 = 0

x + y = - 5

Solution :-

1)

→ y = x - 4 ------- Eqn.(1)

→ x + y = 10 -------- Eqn.(2)

substituting value of y from Eqn.(1) in Eqn.(2),

→ x + (x - 4) = 10

→ 2x - 4 = 10

→ 2x = 10 + 4

→ 2x = 14

→ x = 7

now, substituting value of x in Eqn.(1),

→ y = x - 4

→ y = 7 - 4

→ y = 3 .

therefore, x is equal to 7 and y is equal to 3 .

→ x - y + 3 = 0 ------- Eqn.(1)

→ x + y = - 5 ------- Eqn.(2)

from Eqn.(2),

→ x + 5 = (-y)

substituting value of (-y) in Eqn.(1),

→ x + x + 5 + 3 = 0

→ 2x = (-8)

→ x = (-4)

putting x in Eqn.(2),

→ (-4) + 5 = (-y)

→ 1 = (-y)

→ y = (-1)

therefore, x is equal to (-4) and y is equal to (-1) .
