Given  : The floor area of a 120-square-foot moving van is separated into 3 sections. The first section, to be used for furniture, will take up 1/2 of the floor area of the van. The second section will contain the boxes, and the third section will be used for yard equipment. The second section takes up 3/8 of the floor area.

To Find :   floor area taken up by the third section

Solution:

Total area  = 120  square-foot

Area taken by 1st section = (1/2) * 120  = 60  square-foot

Area taken by 2nd section = (3/8) * 120  = 45  square-foot

Area taken by 3rd section = 120  - 60 - 45   = 15  square-foot

15/120  = 1/8

floor area taken up by the third section = 1/8   or  15 square-foot
