PLEASE HELP!!! There are two types of conflicts that affect characters in stories: internal and external. Internal conflict is a psychological struggle inside the character’s mind. External conflict is the struggle with an outside force. It could be a struggle against another person or a force, such as nature or society.
In this unit, you read stories about characters that were dealing with both types of conflict
Part A
In this task, you will once again read the stories covered in this unit. While reading, you will gather details about the conflict that affects the main character in each story:
“The Story of the Old Man Who Made Withered Trees to Flower” by Yei Theodora Ozaki
“The Moustache” by Robert Cormier
“To Bulid a Fire ” by Jack London
Part B
Now determine which character you think had the most difficult conflict to face. Why? Note that your answer to this question will form the basis of the thesis statement that you will use in a persuasive essay for the next task.
Part C
Next, you should make an outline for your persuasive essay about which character faces the most difficult conflict. Remember that an outline organizes your thoughts on paper. It should clearly show the major ideas of your paper and the supporting details.

Mike faces an internal conflict that is related to the very thoughts he has and the feelings he feels about the conflict he is experiencing. The character solves this problem by going home and removing what caused him to be confused with his grandmother's old husband, the mustache. With that, the character shows that he is leaving this story behind and will not think about it anymore.
“To Build a Fire” by Jack London
Character
Which character is facing the conflict? Type of Conflict
Is the conflict internal or external?
The conflict in ''To Build a Fire'' is man versus nature because the protagonist has to battle the harsh conditions of the Yukon in a fight for survival. The external conflict in the story is the man's struggle with nature - he is unable to build a fire to stave off the cold and dies because of it. The internal struggle is within the man himself. He doesn't realize (or does in fact realize but does not pay attention to) the danger that he is facing.

Part B
The man in To build a Fire had the most difficult conflict to deal with because he practically died as a result of it, while in The Moustache, the most difficult decision Mike had to make was whether to tell his grandma that he wasn't her husband or to keep following her role. I n The Old Man Who Made Withered Trees Flower, The dog did die, but his spirit helped the old man largely by putting a fortune on him.
