Answer:

(i) Tap water contains dissolved salts in it. These salts dissociates into ions when electricity passed through it which are responsible for the electricity conductivity of tap water. But distilled water does not contain any dissolved salts, so it does not conduct electricity.

(ii) Acidity is due to the ability of giving H+ ion. Dry hydrogen chloride does not give hydrogen ions and so it does not act as an acid and does not turn blue litmus red.

(iii) Baking soda acts as a bit like preservative. It makes milk a bit alkaline so as to reduce the pace of bacteria acting on it ,as they add acids (e.g. lactic acid) to the milk and turn it sour. this keeps the milk from becoming sour for a long time.

(iv) While diluting an acid, acid is added to the water and not vice versa because ifwater is added to the acid, then the container may blast due to excessive local heating. The mixture may also splash out causing burns and is a very exothermic process.
