Imagine a line passing through the center of Earth that goes through both the North Pole and the South Pole. This imaginary line is called an axis.

Rotation : Earth spins around its axis, just as a top spins around its spindle. This spinning movement is called Earth’s rotation. An observer in space will see that Earth requires 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 seconds to make one complete rotation on its axis.

Revolution : At the same time that the Earth spins on its axis, it also orbits, or revolves around the Sun. This movement is called revolution. For Earth to make one complete revolution around the Sun takes 365.24 days. This amount of time is the definition of one year.

Equator : The Equator is the line of latitude that divides the globe into two equal halves, the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The Equator is designated as 0° latitude.

Globe : It is round in shape. It is a miniature model of the Earth. It helps us study about the Earth as a whole. It only shows continents, countries and oceans and cannot show details.

It is difficult to carry around and handle a large globe.

Map : It is a flat representation of the Earth’s surface. It shows countries, states, towns and villages. It also shows the distribution of resources, climate, forest etc. It also shows the exact location of any place. It provides us with more information and detail than a globe. It is easier to carry around and handle.

Rig veda : The Rigveda is an ancient Indian collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns which is one of the four sacred canonical texts of Hinduism known as the Vedas and the the oldest known Vedic Sanskrit text.

Indus valley civilization : The Indus Valley Civilisation was a Bronze Age civilisation in the northwestern regions of South Asia, lasting from 3300 BCE to 1300 BCE, and in its mature form from 2600 BCE to 1900 BCE.

Great Bath : The Great Bath is one of the well-known structures among the ruins of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization at Mohenjo-daro in Sindh, Pakistan. Archaeological evidence indicates that the Great Bath was built in the 3rd millennium BCE, soon after the raising of the "citadel" mound on which it is located.

Village Panchayat : A gram panchayat or village panchayat is the only grassroots-level of panchayati raj formalised by local self-governance system in India at the village or small-town level, and has a sarpanch as its elected head.
