Given,
m = 1500 kg
u = 36 kmh^(-1) = 10 ms^(-1)
Since the car is brought to rest after the application of the force, v = 0 ms^(-1)
t = 2 s
We have the acceleration (or retardation),
a = (v - u) / t = (0 - 10) / 2 = - 5 ms^(-2)
Now the force,
F = ma = 1500 × -5 = - 7500 N
We may just have the magnitude, so 7500 N is the answer.
