because the max temp. can be get when we get sun's rays directly and at afternoon sun is at the shortesh distance from us. thus vice versa for min temp.

during the day time the sun rays fall directly over the earth surface which cause rise in the temperature and hence the maximum temperature is recorded during the afternoon .
In morning sun rays fall slantly over the earth surface so very less temperature is recorded and hence temperature is minimum in the morning
