Snake is a poem which deals with the theme that ''intellectual or education may become a mans enemy at times''.

The graceful and dignified snake comes to the poet's water trough to quench its thirst. The poet is honored that the snake has come seeking his hospitality and treated the snake as his guest. However, the voices of his accursed human education provoked him to harm the snake. He experienced conflicting emotions. His instinct made him respect, honor and admire the snake while his inner voice told him that in Sicily, golden snakes are venomous and must be killed. Thus, he puts down his pitcher and picks up the log and throws at the snake. Immediately, he regrets his act.

He despises himself for the vulgar, mean and paltry act he ha performed. He feels an acute sense of remorse and guilt. He regrets that the formal myths of his education guided him and told him that snakes are poisonous since all snakes are arbitrarily certified as dangerous by man.

He wishes his snake would return and he would have the opportunity of serving one of the lords of life, the majestic snake again. However, he had lost his chance. Thus, he wanted to make amends for his pettiness.

HOPE THIS HELPS AND PLEASE MARK AS BRAINLIEST!! THANK YOU FOR READING!!
