since hypotenuse AC² =  AB² and BC²

If we use the Pythagorean theorem we see that a²+b²=c²

Here we can substitute 'a' with line segment AB and 'b' with line segment AB, hence we can substitute 'c' with AC.

note: For Pythagorean theorem to work it must be a right angle triangle, here it is working so it is a right angle triangle. we can say B\angle B is 90 degrees as it is opposite to the hypotenuse.
