a) The bulb of a clinical thermometer is long and cylindrical because it has a larger surface area. Moreover, if the bulb is long and cylindrical it will respond fastly to the temprature also more heat will be transmitted to mercury through cylindrical bulb surface.
b) The clinical thermometer is given a jer.k before use as by doing so its mercury level will come down so as to get accurate reading.
