Answer:-

Well, when I was preparing for my boards, history was like a nightmare to me. Whenever I used to sit and read my history book, the mere length of the chapters used to horrify me and therefore I used to leave history and study other subjects. I used to hate history because of its vast syllabus and it was very difficult remember. But you have to study it even if you don't wish to, because you need get good marks in all subjects. So I found a better way to study history. During my boards prepration for history, I first read all the chapters like a story in a sequential manner relating the events that had happened in past and visualising the situation in mind. Once you start visualising what was happening in the past and start understanding the situation, it becomes very easy for you learn history. You can easily understand the causes and effects of each and every event that is mentioned in your book and then you don't have to mug up things. It sounds a bit wierd if a person says that you first need to understand history to make its study easier because history is famous for mugging up so how can one even think about understanding a subject like history? But believe me, history is not just a mugging up subject. If you understand and enjoy history, it will be a lot better than mugging up history. Not everyone has the capacity to mug up such a vast syllabus. If you try to mug up things, it is not going to remain in your mind for a long time and if you are preparing for boards, you need to retain it for atleast a month or two (obviously you are not going to study history one day before your board exam).

Therefore, according to me try to first read each and every chapter with full concentration. Visualise and understand each and every line you are reading. History is like a story which had happened in the past. Relate the events and fix it in your mind. Now when you have understood the story, you start learning important points. You are going to find that it's now easier to memorize the events, causes, and effects . Even memorizing the dates becomes easier now. You may also make notes of the important points.

For memorizing the dates, you can note all the dates and years of the events in sequential manner on a paper. In ICSE board the dates of only few important events are asked.

Try to solve previous years' question papers to get an idea of the type of questions asked in board examination.

This helped me study history in a very easy way (ok!! not very easy but easier than before) … hope this would help you too!!
