These tribal societies did not follow any of the social rules and rituals which the Brahmanas had prescribed. However, they had very rich oral traditions.

They were not divided into many unequal classes.

Members of the society were united by kinship bonds.

For the tribals a new situation arose with the advent of colonial rule. Their life was disturbed by the interference of the British. The British intervened the tribal society and economy for exploiting the natural resources of the forests. The British challenged the traditional land rights of the tribal people.

British restricted tribal people's rights over their forests which affected their livelihood. Imposed high land revenue over the few who owned land. British alienated the land owners if the have arrears over revenue. Brought permanent worst impact over their society.

A tribal society is a group of tribes organized around kinships. Tribes represent a part in social evolution between bands and nations. A tribe can be a collection of families or of families and individual people living together. A tribe usually divides up the jobs that need to be done among themselves.

Tribal life is characterized by comparative physical and cultural isolation, simplicity, small group size, low population density and closeness to nature, both physically and conceptually.

Tribal communities revolted more often and far more violently than any other community, including peasants, in India. The insurgency of the Adivasis was a deliberate and desperate way to escape from the clutches of extortionate usurers, venal police, irresponsible officials and the like
