For Activity 1.

Figure 1.

Definition of Rise :-

  • The difference in elevation between points is called the rise.

Definition of Run :-

  • The distance between the points is called the run.

To calculate Rise :-

Let us suppose that rise is 'y' units

\bf\implies \:6y = 30

\bf\implies \:y = 5

\bf \:So, \:  rise \:  is \:  5 \:  units

To calculate Run :-

Let us suppose that run is 'x' units.

\bf\implies \:6x = 10

\bf\implies \:x = \dfrac{10}{6}  = \dfrac{5}{3}

\bf \:So, run \:  is  \: \dfrac{5}{3}  \: units

To find the slope :-

\bf \:slope = \dfrac{rise}{run}

\bf\implies \:slope = \dfrac{5}{\dfrac{5}{3} }  = 3

For figure 2.

\bf \:Rise = y_2-y_1 = 4 - 2 = 2

\bf \:Run = x_2-x_1 = 3 - 1 = 2

\bf\implies \:slope \:  = \dfrac{2}{2}  = 1

For Activity 2.

Formula of slope,

\bf \:slope = \dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

\bf \:1. \: slope = \dfrac{8 - 2}{1 - 0}  = 6

\bf \:2. \: slope = \dfrac{ - 5 - 8}{ - 2 + 1} = 13

\bf \:3. \: slope = \dfrac{7 - 7}{9 - 4}  = 0

\bf \:4. \: slope = \dfrac{5 - 5}{4 + 11}  = 0

\bf \:5. \: slope = \dfrac{ - 12 - 15}{9 + 5}  =  -  \dfrac{27}{14}
