Observe the picture that I provided. In it i, i₁ represents currents.

Apply Kirchoff's law in loop FADEF(in anticlockwise direction),

10 - 2i - 4i₁= 0,

i+2i₁=5..........(1)

Apply Kirchoff's law in loop BFECB ( in anticlockwise direction),

-(i-i₁)2+4i₁+20=0

-2i+2i₁+4i₁+20=0

2i-6i₁=20

i-3i₁=10

From (1)

(5-2i₁) - 3i₁ = 10

-5=5i₁

i₁= -1 A.

Here minus represents the current is flowing opposite to the direction we have taken.

Hence the current through 4Ω is 1 A downwards( towards E).
