Step-by-step explanation:

(x+iy)^(1/3) = a+i b

now cubing on both sides we get

x+iy = a^3+i^3b^3+3a.ib.(a+i b)

=a^3-i^3+3a^2bi-3ab^2

=(a^3-3ab^2)+i(3a^2b-b^3)

then x=a^3-3ab^2

and y=3a^2b-b^3

now consider

(x/a)+(y/b)=a^2-3b^2+3a^2-b^2

=4(a^2-b^2)

hence proved
