DC = $27 - x$ = AD

speed of peacock = speed of snake

In right △ABD

→ $(27 - x) {}^{2} = 9 {}^{2} + x {}^{2}$

→ $729 - 54 \: x + x {}^{2} = 81 + x{}^{2}$

→ $729 - 81 = 54x$

→ $54x = 648$

→ $x = 12m$

Hence, the peacock caught the snake at a distance of $\color{green}{12m}$ from the hole.
