x= -a

putting in eqn (I)

3(-a)²+6a(-a)+5(-a)-8=

3a²- 6a²-5a-8=0

-3a²-5a-8=0

-3a²-(8-3)a-8 = 0

-3a²-8a-3a-8=0

-a(3a+8)-1(3a-8)=0

(3a+8)(-a-1)=0

now

3a+8= Or a= -1

3a=-8

a=-8/3
