Let the equal sides of isosceles triangle be x cm

By using Pythagoras theorem:

(AC)2 = (AB)2 + (BC)2

⇒ 122 = x2 + x2

⇒ 144 = 2x2

⇒ 72 = x2

⇒ x = √72

⇒ x = 6√2 cm

AB = BC = 6√2 cm

Area of triangle = 1/2 × Base × Height

⇒ Area = 1/2 × AB × BC

⇒ Area = 1/2 × 6√2 × 6√2

⇒ Area = 36 sq. cm

∴ Area of isosceles triangle is 36 sq. cm.
