3x - 5y = 5....(i)

x/x+y = 5/7

By Cross Multiplying, we get

7x = 5(x+y)

or, 7x - 5x = 5y

or, 2x = 5y

or, 2x - 5y = 0....(ii)

By subtracting (ii) from (i), we get

x = 5

Substituting x=5 in (ii) , we get

2(5) - 5y = 0

or, 10 - 5y = 0

or, y = -10/-5 = 2

The value of x and y is 5 and 2 respectively.

So, x - y = 5 - 2 = 3

(x-y) = 3
