Construction: Join PX, PY, PZ and PW

We have m(arc XAZ ) = m(arc YBW)__(I)

         

We know that the angle subtended by the arc at the centre is twice the angle subtended at any part of the circle.

→ 2∠XYZ = m(arc XAZ )

→ 2∠YZW = m(arc YBW)

From equation (1), we have:

→ ∠XYZ = ∠YZW

As ∠XYZ and ∠YZW are alternate angles and they are equal,

XY∥ZW.

Hence proved.
