Explanation:

First you see that we have a triangle inside a triangle

but the smaller triangle is a right angle triangle

And we have two sides of it

So using Pythagoras theorem

we will find the third side which is a side of the bigger triangle

so when we will get all the sides of the bigger triangle

When we will get the all sides of the bigger triangle

using Heron's formula we will find area of bigger triangle

then subtract the area of smaller one

and you get the area of shaded region!

Solution:

According to Pythagoras theorem

AB^2=AD^2+BD^2

AB^2=144+256

AB^2=400

AB=20cm

AREA OF BIGGER TRIANGLE

Using Heron's formula

S=(AB+AC+BC)/2

=√S(S-AB)(S-AC)(S-BC)

=√60(60-52)(60-48)(60-20)

=√60×8×12×40

=√230400

=480cm^2

Area of smaller triangle

=1/2× base×height

=1/2×12×16=96cm^2

Area of shaded region

=Area of bigger triangle (ABC)-Area of smaller one(ABD)

=(480-96)cm^2=384cm^2
