mokshitashukla: The first term is, 12x its coefficient is 12 .
The middle term is, +17x its coefficient is 17 .
The last term, "the constant", is +6

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant 12 • 6 = 72

Step-2 : Find two factors of 72 whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is 17 .
mokshitashukla: we get 2 such numbers that are 8 and 9
mokshitashukla: so factors will be (3x-2) and (4x-3)
mokshitashukla: srry in 2nd lline -17 **
mokshitashukla: just be careful while opening brackets with negative sign

Solution:-

Given Quadratic Polynomial Equation:-

12x² - 17x + 6 = 0.

=) 12x² - 17x + 6 = 0

=) 12x² - ( 9 + 8)x + 6 = 0

=) 12x² - 9x - 8x + 6 = 0

=) 3x ( 4x -3) -2 ( 4x - 3) = 0

=) ( 4x - 3)( 3x - 2)

=) [ x = 3/4 ] and [ x = 2/3 ].

Steps to Solve Questions by Splitting the Middle Term.

  • Firstly, we usually split the Middle term such as the sum of the Splitted term is equal to the real term.
  • We also see that the Product of the Splitted term is equal to the Product of First and last term of the Equation.

12 {x}^{2}  - 17x + 6 = 0 \\  \\  12 {x}^{2}  - 8x - 9x + 6 = 0 \\  \\ 4x(3x - 2) - 3(3x - 2) = 0 \\  \\ (3x - 2)(4x - 3) = 0 \\  \\ when \: (3x - 2) = 0 \\  \\ 3x = 2 \\  \\ x =  \frac{2}{3}  \\  \\ when \: (4x - 3) = 0 \\  \\ 4x = 3 \\  \\ x =  \frac{3}{4}
