Let the parts be x and 60 - x

According to question

3x - 100=200-9(60-x)

=x=40

and 60 -x = 20

 

so smaller part is 20 and bigger part is 40.

 

there is no reason to be confused. there just had been a mistake in typing. No mathematical error. You can clearly see that the smaller part is 20 and the bigger part is 40
