Hi Mate !!

• For an equation to be independent the Relation between it's coefficient of x and coefficient of y with another equation should be as follows :-

 \frac{a1}{a2} \:  \:  \:  \:  not \: equal \: to  \:  \:  \: \frac{b1}{b2}

Given equation :- x + 2y = 3
5x + ky + 7 = 0

Here , a1 = 1 b1 = 2
a2 = 5 b2 = k

 \frac{1}{5}  \:  \:  \: not \: equal \: to \:  \:  \frac{2}{k}

1/5 ≠ 2/k

k ≠ 10

So , for any value of k accept 10 the equation will be independent !!
