Price of dal   per 1 kg = D = Rs 20
Price of Rice per  1 kg = Rs R
Price of Fish per 1 kg = R + 40

Quantity of Rice in Rs 240 = 240/R   kg

Let A kg of Fish and B kg of dal be bought for a total of Rs 240.
=>   A * (R+40) + B * 20 = Rs 240
=>   A * R + 40 A + 20 B = 240     ---- (1)
From this equation we get that A <= 5.  B <= 11

Given also that the quantities are equal,
=>      A + B = 280/R
=>      R A + R B = 280      ---- (2)

(2) - (1)  gives :     B R = 40 + 40 A + 20 B
                              B (R - 20) = 40 (A+1)       --- (3)

The quantities purchased are perhaps not integer quantities of kg. It seems.

Sid000: Then how does Rs 80 come?
RehanAhmadXLX: Yes.... I did too, I took about 5 pages. but i can't get the answer
