Let the present ages of father and son be x and y respectively .Then,atq,
2 yrs ago,
son's age=y-2
father's age= x-2.
so father's age=3 times as old as his son
x-2 =3(y-2)
x-2=3y-6
x-3y=. -4. eq. 1
and 2 yrs hence,
sons age=y+2
father's age=x +2
so ,twice his age=five times of his sons age.
2(x+2)=5(y+2)
2x+ 4 =5y+10
2x-5y=6. eq 2
Solving eq.s 1 and 2 simultaneously.
multiplying eq. 1 by 2 and subtracting from 2nd,we get.
2x-5y-{2x-6y}=6-(-4)
2x - 5y-2x+6y=10
y=10.
putting in eq. 1 we get
x-30=-4
x=26.
Hence the present ages of father and son are 27 and 10 yrs respectively.
