Answer:

The sides of the given squares are 16 cm and 12 cm.

 \huge \underline{ \underline \mathfrak{explanation - }}

Let the sides of the given squares be a cm and b cm respectively.

Then, a²+b²=400. ........ (1)

And 4a-4b =16 =>a-b =4. ........ (2)

Squaring (2)on both sides, we get

(a-b) ²=16 =>(a²+b²) - 2ab =16.

=>400-2ab =16. [using (1)]

=>2ab =384 =>ab =192. .........(3)

Now, (a+b) ² - (a-b) ² =4ab

=>(a+b) ²-16=4*192

=>(a+b) ²=768+16 =784 =>a+b = \sqrt{784 }= 28

On solving a+b =28 and a-b =4, we get a=16 and b=12.

Hence, the sides of the given squares are 16 cm and 12 cm.
