In triangles EFG and GDC

EF || DC

<FGE = <DGC [vertically opposite angle ]

<GEF = < GCD [ alternate angle ]

EFG =~ GDC [ AA similatry ]

EG /GC = EF /DC

6/12 = EF / 16

EF = 8 cm
