Let the speed of the stream be v, distance travelled be s and t be the time taken to row down.

While rowing downstream, the speed of the stream will add with the sleed of Ramu.

Therefore, t = s / (9 + v) → equation 1

While rowing upstream, speed of speed will be opposite to Ramu.

2t = s / (9 - v)

=> t = s / 2(9 - v)

Substituting the value of t from equation 1,

s / (9 + v) = s / 2(9 - v)

=> 2(9 - v) = 9 + v

=> 18 - 2v = 9 + v

=> 3v = 9

=> v = 9/3 = 3 km/h
