The two features of carbon that give rise to a large number of compounds are as follows:

(i) Catenation − It is the ability to form bonds with other atoms of carbon.

(ii) Tetravalency − With the valency of four, carbon is capable of bonding with four other atoms.

2..

When soap is added to water, micelle formation takes place, this is because the hydrocarbon chains of soap molecules are hydrophobic while the ionic ends are hydrophilic and hence soluble in water. ... It will form in such type of solvent where soap is insoluble in that particular solvent.

hope this helps and mark me as brainliest if it does please please and follow me too...

a) Two properties:-
•) catenation
•) tetra valency

b) Micelle formation takes place when soap is added to water because the hydrocarbon chains of soap are hydrophobic (water repelling) which is insoluble in water, but the ionic ends of soap molecules are hydrophilic (water attracting) and hence soluble in water.
Micelles are not formed when soap is added to ethanol because the alkyl chain of soap becomes soluble in alcohol. Micelle can be formed only around suspended molecules of oil in a mixture.
