Solving without using the formula

1)Let the principal amount for the first year be x

interest on first year=5percent of x=x/20

sum in first year=x+x/20=21x/20

Now,this sum will be principal for the second year

in second year, interest=21x/20 ×5/100=22x/20

sum on second year=x+22x/20=42x/20

this,sum will be principal for the third year

third year interest=42x/20 ×5/100=43x/20

total sum on third year =43x/20

Now, acccording to. question

Interest on third year-interest on first year=102.5

43x/20 -21x/20 =102.5

22x/20=102.5

x=1025×2/22

x=1025/11=93.17

Total sum upto third year=43x/20 =43×93.17/20=200(approx)

Hence the total sum upto three years=200

{hope it helps }
