Given: The angle made between the force and body is θ.

Let Work done be W, force applied be f which causes a displacement s.

W = f x s x cos θ

Thus work done is maximum when θ is 0° since cos 0° is 1.

Work done is minimum (zero) when θ is 90°, i.e. force is applied perpendicular to the direction of displacement since cos 90° is 0.
