let the number be 5x and 8x respectively.

According to question,

 \frac{5x + 12}{8x + 12}  =  \frac{3}{4}  \\  \\ 4(5x + 12) = 3(8x + 12) \\  \\ 20x + 48 = 24x + 36 \\  \\ 20x - 24x = 36 - 48 \\  \\  \cancel{ - }4x = \cancel{  -} 12 \\  \\ 4x = 12 \\  \\ x =  \frac{12}{4}  = 3

Hence , the sum of numbers 5x and 8x is

5x + 8x

=> 5 × 3 + 8 × 3

=> 15 + 24

=> 39

Option [A] 39 is correct.

Thanks for the question!!
