Sol 14. Let the length nd breadth of the rectangular garden be x nd y respectively.

ATQ ,

x = y + 4 ....... (i)

=> Half perimeter of rectangular garden = 36

=> x + y = 36

=> y + 4 + y = 36 ( from i )

=> 2y = 32

=> y = 16 m

Putting value of y in eqⁿ i

x = y + 4

= 16 + 4

= 20 m

Hence the length nd breadth of the rectangular garden are 20 m nd 16 m respectively.

Sol 15. Let P ( 2,-3 ) nd Q ( 10,y ) be ( x1,y1 ) nd ( x2,y2 ) respectively.

Distance formula = √ ( x1 - x2 )² + ( y1 - y2 )²

ATQ,

PQ = 10

=> (PQ)² = (10)² ( squaring both sides )

=> { √ ( x1 - x2 )² + ( y1 - y2 )² }² = 100

=> ( x1 - x2 )² + ( y1 - y2 )² = 100

=> ( 2 - 10 )² + ( -3 - y )² = 100

=> (-8)² + ( 9 + y² + 6y ) = 100

=> 64 + 9 + y² + 6y = 100

=> y² + 6y + 73 - 100 = 0

=> y² + 6y - 27 = 0

=> y² + 9y - 3y - 27 = 0

=> y ( y + 9 ) - 3 ( y + 9 ) = 0

=> ( y + 9 ) ( y - 3 ) = 0

y = 3 nd y = -9

=> distance can never be in negative.

Therefore, y = 3.
