Answer :

3. (viii)

The terms are

9abc, - 6bc, abc, - bc

Short method :

9abc + ( - 6bc) + abc + ( - bc)

= (9abc + abc) + {(- 6bc) + (- bc)}

= (9 + 1) abc + (- 6 - 1) bc

= 10 abc - 7 bc

Column method :

We write the terms as the sum of two terms in order to add them as follows -

(9abc - 6bc) and (abc - bc)

So,

9abc - 6bc
+ abc - bc
__________
10abc - 7bc

Note :

( - ) + ( - ) = ( - )
