Let 1/3x+2y = u and 1/3x-2y= v, so our equation becomes;

u - v = 1/8 ......(1)

3u - v = 1/2 ......(2)

Subtracting both the equations, we get;

-2u = -3/8

or, u = 3/16

or, 3x + 2y = 16/3 ......(3)

Putting the value of u in (1), we get;

v = -(1/8 - 3/16)

or, v = 1/16

or, 3x - 2y = 16 ......(4)

Adding (3) and (4),

6x = 64/3

or, x = 32/9

And, y = 8/3
