Let the length of each edge of the cube be a cm.

Then, its total surface area =

(6a {}^{2})cm {}^{2}

But the total surface area of the cube =

486cm {}^{2}

hence 6a {}^{2} = 486 = > a {}^{2}  = > a =  \sqrt{81}   = 9

The length of each edge of the cube = 9 cm

Hence volume of the cube =

a {}^{3} cubic  units

(9 \times 9 \times 9) cm {}^{2}  = 729cm {}^{3 }

Suppose,

the length of the each side =a cm

The total surface area =6a²

By condition,

6 {a}^{2}  = 486 \\ Or,  {a}^{2}  =   \frac{486}{6}  \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   =   \frac{243}{3}  \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: =  81 \:  cm

Or, {a}^{2}  =  {9}^{2}  \\Or,a  = 9 \: cm

Volume of the cube =a³ cm

=9³ cm

=(9×9×9)cm³

= 729 cm³

Therefore, the volume of the cube is

=729 cm³.
