first we take ∆ADB and ∆EDF

∠ADB=∠EDF (Using vertical opposite angles property)

∠ABD=∠FED (Using alternate angles property)

∠BAD=∠EFD (Using alternate angles property)

∴ΔADB∼ΔEDF (By using Angle Side Angle criterion)

Now, the ratio of their corresponding sides is:

BD/DE = AB/FE

4/y = 6/10

y = 6.67 cm

Similarly, ΔADE∼ΔCDE (using Angle-Angle criterion)

DE/BE = DC/BA

6.67/10.67 = x/6

x = 3.75 cm

therefore x+y = 3.75 + 6.67 = 10.42
