Answer:

Given :

a x + b y = c -----(1)

a²x + b²y = c² -----(2)

Multiplying equation (1) with a we get :

a²x + a b y = a c -------(3)

Subtracting (3) and (1) we get :

⇒ a²x + a b y - a²x - b²y = a c - c²

⇒ a b y - b²y = a c - c²

⇒ y ( a b - b² ) = a c - c²

⇒ y = ( a c - c² ) / ( a b - b² )

⇒ y = c ( a - c ) / b ( a - b )

⇒ y = c / b × ( a - c ) / ( a - b )

Multiply equation 1 with b :

⇒ a b x + b²y = b c ----(4)

Subtracting (4) from (2) we get :

⇒ a b x - a²x = b c - c²

⇒ x ( a b - a² ) = b c - c²

⇒ x = ( b c - c² ) / ( a b - a² )

⇒ x = c ( b - c ) / a ( b - a )
