p - √q = (4 + √2) / (4 - √2)

rationalising we get

p - √q = (4 + √2) (4 + √2) / (4 - √2) ( 4 + √2)

p - √q = (16 + 2 + 8√2) / (16 - 2)

p - √q = (18 + 8√2) / 14

p - √q = 18/14 + 8√2/14

p - √q = 9/7 + 4√2/7

p - √q = 9/7 + √(16*2/49

p - √q = 9/7 - (-√32/49

comparing

p = 9/7

√q = -√32/49

q = 32/49
