Question given :

  • The length of a rectangle is 3 cm more than its breadth and it's perimeter is 50 cm . What is the sum of its length and breadth and find the length and breadth of the rectangle .

Given :

  • The length of a rectangle is 3 cm more tahn its breadth .
  • It's perimeter is 50 cm

To find :

  • What is the sum of its length and breadth ?
  • The length and breadth of the rectangle

Assume :

  • The breadth of the rectangle be x

Formula used :

  • Perimeter = 2 ( length + breadth )

Solution :

  • As we have assumed the breadth as x then the length would be x + 3 cm

Substitute the respective values in the perimeter formula ,

= Perimeter = 2 ( x + 3 + x )

= 50 cm = 2 ( 2x + 3 )

= \sf\dfrac{50}{2} = 2x + 3

= 25 cm = 2x + 3

= 25 - 3 = 2x

= 22 = 2x

= \sf\dfrac{22}{2} = x

= x = 11 cm

  • Breadth is 11 cm
  • Length is 11 + 3 = 14 cm

b) The sum of length and breadth ,

= 11 + 14 = 25 cm
