Answer:

237 = 81 × 2 + 75

81 = 75 × 1 + 6

75 = 6 × 12 + 3

6 = 3 × 2 + 0

3 = 75 – 6 × 12

Hope that helps!

\bf{\underline{\underline{QUESTION:-}}}

  • Find the H.C.F of 81 and 237

\bf{\underline{\underline{SOLUTION:-}}}

  • Clearly 81 < 23

So,

  • a = 81
  • b = 237

Then,

81 ) 237 ( 2

⠀⠀ -162

⠀⠀ ⠀75

Therefore ,

  • By division lemma.
  • => 237 = 81 × 2 + 75

Now,

  • Consider the divisor 81 and remainder 75 we have ,

75 ) 81 ( 1

⠀⠀ -75

⠀⠀ 6

  • => 81 = 75 × 1 + 6

Further,

6 ) 75 ( 12

-72

⠀ 3

  • => 75 = 6 × 12 + 3

Also

3 ) 6 ( 2

⠀⠀-6

⠀⠀ 0

  • => 6 = 3 × 2 + 0
  • At this stage remainder is 0

\bf{\underline{\underline{HENCE:-}}}

  • the H.C.F is 3
