R1 t1 = R2 t2 = Q where R = rate and Q = heat delivered--------------R1 t + R2 t = Q with heaters working together then (R1 + R2) t = Q so (Q / t1 + Q / t2) t = Q substituting the first equations and----------------------(1/t1 + 1/t2) t = 1 and rearranging gives -------------------------------- t = t1 t2 / (t1 + t2)
