Given that D varies directly to t.

i.e d = kt. (k = constant)   ----- (1)

Substitute d = 4 and t = 9 in (1), we get

4 = k * 9

4/9 = k    ------- (2)

Given that t = 21. Substitute (2) & (3), we get

d = (4/9) * 21

   = 9.33 (or) 9 1/3.

Hope this helps!
