Given :

Fall in mercury level in celsius thermometer when boiling water is cooled =\frac{8}{15} parts

To Find :

Cooled temperature in fahrenheit scale = ?

Solution :

The formula for the  temperature conversion in celsius scale and fahrenheit scale is :

T(^0 F)= \frac{9}{5} T(^0C) + 32

Since initially mercury level is at 100 °C , so when \frac{8}{15}  part falls  :

Final temperature =(1-\frac{8}{15}) \times 100(∴ mercury level is proportional to temp )

                             = \frac{7}{15} \times 100

So, final temperature in °F = \frac{9}{5} \times (\frac{7}{15} \times 100) + 32

                                            = 84 + 32

                                            = 116 ° F

So, cooled temp in fahrenheit is 116 °F.
