The two numbers are 85/4 and 83/4

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the numbers be x and y

as per question,

x + y = 49 ------(1)

x - y = 1/2 ------(2)

By solving the above equations

we get,

2x = 42 +  \frac{1}{2}  =  \frac{84 + 1}{2}  =  \frac{85}{2} \\2x =  \frac{85}{2}  \\ x =  \frac{85}{4}

put the value of x in equation (2)

we get,

 \frac{85}{2}  - y =  \frac{1}{2}

y =  \frac{85}{4}  -  \frac{1}{2}  =  \frac{85 -2}{4}  =  \frac{83}{4}
