let the price one saree be ' x ' and price of one shirt be ' y '

total price = 1,600

2 x + 4 y = 1,600. ____________eq(1)

also given , with the same money one can by 1 sare and 6 shirts . so now

1 x + 6 y =1600. ___ __________eq(2)

multiply eq(2) by 2 and eq.(1) by 1 , we get

2x + 4y = 1600. ______________eq(3)

2x + 12y = 3200. _____________eq.(4)

___________ subtract eq(3) from eq(4)

8y =1600

y = Rs 200

therefore , price of one shirt ,y = Rs 200

price of 12 shirts

= 12y = 12 ×200 = Rs 2400

therefore , he need to pay ,Rs 2400 to buy 12 shirts.

option (B) is the correct answer.
