Answer:

So the positive Number was 6 and its two parts are 4 and 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us suppose that the number is z

and it is divided into two parts x and y

where x is the smaller part and y is the larger part

According to first condition

x² + y² = 20        .......................(i)

Also

y² = 8x             ..............(ii)

Now we have two equations

Putting this value in equation (i) to get the value of x

equation (i) is

x² + y² = 20

Putting value of y²

x² + 8x = 20

it becomes

x² + 8x - 20 = 0                       ∴Subtracting 20 from both sides

Now by Mid term breaking we have

x² - 2x+10x - 20 = 0

Taking factors

x(x-2) + 10(x-2) = 0

(x-2)(x+10) = 0

Now Either

x-2 = 0     or x + 10 =0

x = 2         or x = -10

as it is a positive Number so x=2

Putting this in equation (ii)

y² = 8x

Putting the value of x

y² = 8 * 2

y² = 16

taking square root gives

y = ±4

as it is a positive number so

y=4

Now

The number

z= x + y

 = 4 +2

 = 6

So the positive Number was 6 and its two parts are 4 and 2
