Explanation:

In linear motion all particles of human body travel the same distance during the same time. ... In rectilinear motion all particles of the body travel the same distance along parallel straight lines.The use of elevators in public places is an example of rectilinear motion. Gravitational forces acting on objects resulting in free fall is an example of rectilinear motion. Kids sliding down from a slide is a rectilinear motion. The motion of planes in the sky is a rectilinear motion.The use of elevators in public places is an example of rectilinear motion. Given:-

Initial velocity ( u ) = 0 ( as ball is droped )

Distance = 20 meters

Acceleration = 10 m/s^2

To find :-

Time

Solution :-

As per the third motion equation

v^2 - u^2 = 2as

v^2 - 0 = 2as

v^2 = 2as

v^2 =2 × 10 × 20

√v^2 = √ 2×10×20

v = √20×20

v = √20^2

v = 20 m/s

So ball hits the ground with a velocity of 20 meters per second.

As per the first motion equation,

v= u + at

Therefore, t = (v-u)/a

= (20-0) / 10

= 2 seconds

Therefore, the ball reaches the ground after 2 seconds.

Formula used :-

v^2 - u^2 = 2as

v= u + at

hope it helps you
